The Artist Formerly Know As

Farewell to an Icon…

I was 10 the first time I saw this “being” who had all the mannerisms of a woman, you know elegance, grace, style. The same “being” had the characteristics of a man. The confidence, the authority by sheer presence when he walked into a room or on stage, the honesty via music or interview.

I am speaking about none other than “The Icon” Prince.

Born Prince Roger Nelson (of Minneapolis, MN in June of 1958) “The Purple One” is responsible for redefining what music could be as well as what it meant to be an artist for decades. Being a master of several instruments, an award winning vocalist conjuring a flawless falsetto from such a baritone voice, alongside an accomplished writer for many of yester-year and present international acts, Prince (or Joey Coco) has done nothing short of carving his name into the musical books of forever.

Can you remember a time where you could take your eyes off prince? From his glorious Afros, to amazing and stylish cuts. His eccentric styled blazers to his signature eye ware be it make up or frames, it’s was a very difficult task not falling in love with this sex symbol. A genuine soul from interviews all the way to the stage. If Prince was live, the world was watching.

Like I am now, watching the tens of updates that fill my Facebook timeline reporting that greats like Micheal Jackson, Luther Vandross, and Whitney Houston will have company. On April 21st, 2016 we lost Alexander Nevermind (another alias) to what is being reported as a server case of the flu. Reports also state that he had been ill for weeks, only showing a few days of possible recovery, particularly when he would pop up to event’s or performances during scheduled shows.

Man, that has got to be one serious concert going on up “there.”

Here is my favorite Prince Track for you all to groove too. Enjoy.

King.
